What are the problems associated with Fosamax?

By Welch, Gold & Siegel – Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc., Pennsylvania

Fosamax, one of the best known pharmaceutical drugs on the market, is rife with serious side effects and problems. Fosamax is in a class of drugs called Bisphosphonate which slows down the dead bone cells that soften the bone.

  1. Fosamax atrial fibrillation problem - While Fosamax is said to reduce hip fractures by 63 percent, people taking Fosamax had an 86 percent higher risk of developing atrial fibrillation.
  2. Fosamax jawbone death problem - According to the American Dental Association Fosamax makes it easier for bacteria to adhere to bone that has been exposed after dental surgery. This condition known as osteonecrosis of the jaw or ONJ Jawbone problems may include infection, and delayed healing after teeth are pulled.
  3. Fosamax esophageal cancer problem – The Fosamax packaging says to stop taking Fosamax if you develop new or worsening heartburn, difficult or painful swallowing, or chest pain because these may be signs of serious upper digestive problems, which can include irritation, inflammation, or ulceration of the esophagus. This irritation may be the link to esophageal cancer.
  4. Fosamax long bone fracture problem – The Journal of Orthopedic Trauma links Fosamax to a rare type of low energy fracture in the femur which occur when someone falls from a standing height or less.

If you, your mother, sister, wife, or favorite aunt has developed one of the above Fosamax related injuries, find out what your legal options are from the Pennsylvania law firm Welch, Gold & Siegel, advocating for people harmed by unsafe drugs.

P.S. A growing number of men are taking Fosamax too. Men are no longer immune to the problems associated with Fosamax.
